INFRASTRUCTURE
The construction and maintenance, as well as the use of infrastructures occasionally leads to major fire risks. This risk increases proportionally based on the size of the project. The water-mist system is a viable option for the protection of a great number of them, and can be used independently of the field for which they were designed.
In this section, we highlight the protection of ENERGY: thermal plants, solar thermal power plants, combined cycles, wind-power parks, generators and turbines, electric substations, transformers, cable tunnels, etc. Conversely, those related with TRANSPORT are: metros, trains, airports, heliports, hangars, ports, load terminals, tunnels, ships, military vehicles, etc.
The most sought after protection is for:
HIGHWAY TUNNELS:
These facilitate terrestrial communications thanks to the fact that they save physical obstacles, and reduce traffic time. However, due to their characteristics of confinement, they present much bigger and more dangerous risks than accidents in the open air.
TRAINS:
Being either on ground or underground, trains and metros present habitual elements of risk. However, this problem is worsened by reduced mobility in confined enclosures and evacuation difficulties.
TURBINES:
From the point of view of protection against fires, these refer to facilities posing high danger risks due to their operation, their fire load and diversity of auxiliary facilities. However, because of their high costs and serious economic consequences in the event of production halts, it vital to take protection measures.
CABLE TUNNELS:
Any damage to these elements can lead to cuts in service, security incidences, and damage to other equipment, production halts, and interruptions of all kinds in the economic and productive activities that depend on them.
GAS PLANTS:
The production stages include: extraction, treatment, liquefaction, storage, re-gasification, transportation and distribution to the final consumer. In each case, fire or accident risk is very high, i.e. seeing that there are light gases with a very high flammable and explosive potential.
Critical Elements:
TRANSFORMERS: Losses in damage are not only quantified by deterioration in equipment, but also cuts in the electrical supply, which can gravely affect companies, industries, basic services such as hospitals or urban areas, causing significant economic repercussions.Read more...
